The Miller Report 09112025

Greetings Friends,

Today, I pause to remember Charlie Kirk—not only as a public figure, but as a man whose voice stirred conviction and whose work touched many lives. His journey ended far too soon, yet the spark he lit continues to burn in the hearts of those he inspired. May we honor his memory not with silence, but with courage, faith, and the belief that one life lived boldly can change the course of many.

RIP †πŸ’•✨ πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ️

As we carry that thought with us, let’s turn the page together and look ahead—because even in difficult times, stories, ideas, and adventures still give us light.

 • Math of the Week
1. Tent Setup
Emily and Jack are setting up tents at their campsite. Each tent takes 12 stakes, and they have 4 tents to put up. If each package contains 24 stakes, how many packages do they need to buy?

2. Marshmallow Roast
Bryan and his friends roast marshmallows at the fire. Each skewer can hold 3 marshmallows, and they want to roast 45 marshmallows. How many skewers do they need if they fill each one completely?

3. Canoe Trip
Jack and Emily paddle 6 miles downstream in their canoe in 2 hours. On the way back upstream, the current slows them down, and it takes them 3 hours to cover the same distance. What is their average speed downstream and their average speed upstream?

4. Trail Hike
Nina plans a hike that’s 7.5 miles long. She walks at a steady pace of 2.5 miles per hour. How long will it take her to finish the trail, and what time will she get back if she starts at 9:00 a.m.?

5. Campfire Cooking
Joe makes hot dogs over the campfire. Each pack contains 10 hot dogs, and there are 13 campers who each want 2 hot dogs. How many packs of hot dogs does Joe need to buy, and how many hot dogs will be left over?

 • Answers to last week's math

1. 18.1 pounds

2. $28.52 (after a 15% discount on $33.55)

3. 1.36 miles (2400 yards ÷ 1760 = 15/11 ≈ 1.36)

4. 64,000 combinations (40³)

5. $155 profit (120 × $2.50 = $300; $300 − $145 = $155)

• Quick question
If your life were a reality show, what ridiculous challenge do you think you’d win hands-down? I’m thinking a contest of eating gallons of ice cream while trying to balance on a unicycle could be my shining moment! That’s a talent show even the judges would be baffled by!

 • weather forecast

September 14: Temperatures will drop into the 50s as scientists confirm Saturn’s rings are actually just frozen onion rings. Frying pans on standby—meteorologists predict a shower of breadcrumbs. Locals advised to bring ketchup, not umbrellas.

 • Questions from readers:
Q: Joe, do you ever think about quitting writing?
A: Sure, but then I remember I can’t quit something that doesn’t pay me a salary.

Q:  Joe, who is your favorite meteorologist?
A:  Tough call.  I have to say Ginger Zee.

 Joe
