The Miller Report 01292026
Miller's Mysteries Blog
Greetings and Welcome!
Greetings and welcome to Miller’s Mysteries Blog, where winter insists on being the main character. Snowy sidewalks, icy roads, and the occasional deer cameo keep things interesting. The goats next door peer in like they’re waiting for plot twists, while the cats remain warm and unimpressed.
Dust Bunny
We’re looking forward to getting out for Calendar House shows, movies, and dining adventures. Until that happens, enjoy the view from inside.

Sunsign
The Sun struts through Aquarius like it just invented a new personality type called “brilliant but tired.” The Moon’s energy has everyone talking too much, texting too fast, and forgetting why they picked up their phone in the first place. Jupiter whispers, “comfort food is self-care,” while Saturn quietly judges your life choices from a corner chair. And Pluto? Pluto’s in the background, rearranging your destiny while pretending it’s just moving furniture. 😄🔮
Groundhog Day is Monday. The Italian-American groundhog. When they asked him if he saw his shadow, he said: “I didn’t see nothin’!”
• Math of the Week
1. Snow Shoveling Geometry
Bob and Michele shovel a rectangular driveway that is 24 feet long and 12 feet wide after a snowstorm leaves 8 inches of snow. If the snow is evenly distributed, what is the volume of snow they remove in cubic feet? (Hint: convert inches to feet first.)
2. Snowblower Algebra
Bob’s snowblower clears snow at a rate of 600 square feet every 10 minutes, while Michele shovels by hand at a rate of 350 square feet every 10 minutes. If their driveway is 4,200 square feet, how long will it take them to clear it working together?
3. Winter Walk Ratios
After the storm, Bob and Michele walk to the store through the snow. Bob takes 3 steps for every 2 steps Michele takes because his stride is longer. If Michele takes 480 steps total, how many steps does Bob take?
4. Hot Chocolate Linear Equations
Bob and Michele buy hot chocolate after shoveling. Bob buys 2 large hot chocolates and 1 cookie for $11.50. Michele buys 1 large hot chocolate and 3 cookies for $10.25. If both items have constant prices, what is the price of one hot chocolate and one cookie?
5. Snow Pile Trigonometry
Bob and Michele built a triangular snow pile with a base of 10 feet and a height of 6 feet. What is the area of the snow pile’s cross-section?
Then, if the pile is 8 feet long, what is the approximate volume of the pile?
• Now, This Week's Exciting Story
Sideways
The blizzard came in sideways — the kind of storm that makes streetlights disappear and turns sidewalks into rumor and memory. Most of the town shut down by noon, but Maggie’s Corner Café stayed lit like a lighthouse, its windows glowing gold through the white chaos. A crooked hand-painted sign hung in the door:
OPEN — IF YOU CAN MAKE IT.
The first customer burst in wearing ski goggles, a snowmobile helmet, and one red mitten that definitely didn’t belong to the other glove. Snow followed him inside like a loyal dog. He didn’t speak — just pointed at the chalkboard menu that read:
SOUP OF THE DAY: “STORM STEW.”
Maggie ladled him a bowl without questions. One spoonful and his shoulders dropped like someone had unplugged his fear. “I can feel my toes again,” he whispered, reverently.
After that, they came in waves. A teacher wrapped in a Patriots blanket. A mail carrier wearing scuba goggles. A teenager in a superhero cape over a parka. They stumbled through the door like survivors from different movies, faces red, eyes wild, heroic expressions forged by snow and bad decisions. Every single one of them ordered the soup. And every single one of them went quiet after the first bite — the sacred silence of people being saved by broth.
By nightfall, the blizzard howled harder, but the café only grew warmer. Stories replaced shivers. Laughter replaced wind. Someone started calling it “miracle soup.” Someone else swore it cured their bad mood, their breakup, and their decision to wear sneakers in a blizzard. By morning, the storm was gone — but the legend stayed.
And in that town, to this day, when winter gets cruel, and courage gets thin, people still say:
“If you’re cold, lost, or just making dumb winter choices…
Go to Maggie’s.
The soup will fix it.” ☕❄️🥣
===========SHADOW
Every night, the lights flickered in perfect synchronization with a hum in the sky.
Neighbors complained, but he noticed the hum vibrating through his own bones.
By the third night, he could no longer distinguish his heartbeat from the alien pulse.
He realized the UFOs weren’t visitors—they were architects of his terror.

• Thank you for stopping by!
I appreciate you being here, even briefly. Winter roads have a way of humbling us into slower thinking. Hot black coffee ☕ helps us listen to that lesson. The fireside gathers the quiet and holds it steady. Hot soup brings the kind of comfort that doesn’t need explaining. Thanks for visiting—safe travels.
