The Miller Report 04022026
Miller's Mysteries Blog
Greetings and Welcome!
Welcome back to Miller’s Mysteries Blog, where the early April weather is perfect for wandering around town. The birds are singing, the roads are finally clear, and people are starting to plan movie nights at AMC Theatres. Out in the yard, a pair of curious squirrels are staring at the house like they expect popcorn. Cats
Inside, the cats are staring back with equal suspicion. If this keeps up, we may need to start selling tickets.

There once was a crew from NASA so brave, who dreamed of a Moonbase to build and to pave.
They launched with a cheer,
Said, “We’ll settle up here!”
Then realized they’d forgotten to shave. 😄🚀

Weather Forcast
Big picture:
After today’s chilly, damp weather, things rebound nicely for Saturday, then slide back into classic rainy April vibes Sunday.
Horoscope
April 2, 2026, brings a cozy, reflective energy, perfect for slowing down and noticing the small details you usually rush past. A simple moment, a warm drink, a good conversation, or even the sound of rain may spark an unexpected idea or quiet insight. Trust the gentle rhythm of the day, because not everything meaningful needs to move fast.
• The Reader
Molly curled into a comfortable armchair at the Southington public library on a quiet Tuesday morning. A paperback notebook rested on her knee with a pencil tucked in the spiral. Her tablet displayed the Mindmyst Tales Blog while she explored the newest story prompts. A warm cup of chai tea sat on the side table beside a chocolate chip cookie. The library air was calm and full of the faint scent of old books. Molly scribbled a few witty lines that came to mind. She smiled, feeling right at home with the blog.
• Math of the Week
1. Coffee Shop Algebra
On a rainy April 2nd, Gabe and Debbie duck into a cozy coffee shop to stay dry. Gabe orders 2 coffees and 3 muffins for $11, while Debbie orders 1 coffee and 2 muffins for $7. Assuming the prices are consistent, what is the cost of one coffee and one muffin?
2. Umbrella Geometry
As the rain picks up, Gabe opens a large circular umbrella with a diameter of 40 inches to cover both himself and Debbie. What is the area of the umbrella, and how much space (in square inches) does it provide to keep them dry?
3. Bus Stop Timing (Linear Equations)
Gabe and Debbie are waiting at a bus stop in the rain. The bus is scheduled to arrive every 20 minutes. If they arrive at 2:05 PM and the last bus came at 2:00 PM, how long will they have to wait, and what time will the next bus arrive?
4. Rainfall Rate (Rate Problem)
During a steady April shower, rain is falling at a rate of 0.3 inches per hour. If Gabe and Debbie stay outside for 2.5 hours talking under a small awning, how much total rain falls during that time?
5. Walking Distance (Pythagorean Theorem)
Trying to avoid puddles, Gabe and Debbie cut diagonally across a rectangular park that is 120 feet long and 50 feet wide. How far do they walk along the diagonal path?
• Now, This Week's Exciting Story
NASA NEWS:
The launch of Artemis II mission on April 1, 2026, marked a historic return to deep space for human astronauts, as NASA successfully sent a four-person crew on a journey around the Moon for the first time in more than 50 years. Lifting off at approximately 6:35 p.m. from Kennedy Space Center, the powerful Space Launch System rocket carried the Orion spacecraft into orbit, beginning a carefully choreographed sequence of maneuvers that would send the crew toward the Moon.
According to NASA updates, the launch followed a complex and precise countdown involving fueling operations with super-cooled liquid hydrogen and oxygen, as well as strict weather monitoring to ensure safe conditions. After liftoff, Orion successfully deployed its solar arrays and began initial orbital adjustments, demonstrating that critical systems were functioning as planned. These early milestones confirmed that the spacecraft could generate power, maintain stability, and prepare for deeper space operations.
The Artemis II crew, consisting of three American astronauts and one Canadian, is undertaking a roughly 10-day mission that will carry them farther from Earth than any humans since the Apollo era. Rather than landing, the mission focuses on testing life-support systems, navigation, and manual piloting in deep space, all essential steps before future lunar landings. The flight is expected to travel more than 250,000 miles, pushing beyond previous human distance records and validating technologies needed for sustained exploration.
Despite the excitement surrounding the launch, NASA officials have emphasized that Artemis II is primarily a test mission. Engineers are closely monitoring spacecraft performance, including communication systems, orbital maneuvers, and astronaut health, while also evaluating risks such as reentry heat shield performance. Minor issues, such as brief communication interruptions, have been reported but have not significantly impacted the mission’s progress.
In a broader sense, Artemis II represents more than a single mission. It is a foundational step in NASA’s long-term plan to return humans to the Moon, establish a sustained presence, and eventually prepare for missions to Mars. By successfully launching and operating a crewed spacecraft beyond low Earth orbit, NASA has taken a significant step toward a new era of exploration, one that moves beyond short visits and toward a lasting human presence in deep space.

You ever get pulled into a group text and immediately know… you don’t belong there? Like, your phone buzzes, and suddenly you’re in a conversation between three people named “Mom,” “Aunt Linda,” and “Pharmacy.” I don’t even know how I got there. I feel like I was added by accident, and now I’m too polite to leave.
Group texts are dangerous because they start innocently. Someone says, “Hey, everyone!” and you think, okay, maybe this is important. Then five minutes later, it’s just people reacting with thumbs up. Nobody’s saying anything; we’re just emotionally agreeing in emojis.
And there’s always that one person who uses the group text like it’s their personal diary. “Hey guys, just wanted to say I’m running five minutes late.” That didn’t need a group. That needed one person. One. Not fourteen confused people wondering if they were supposed to pick you up.
My favorite is when someone asks a question meant for ONE person… but sends it to everyone. “Hey, does anyone have my blue sweater?” Now we’ve got twelve people checking closets like it’s a police investigation. “Negative, no sweater here. Checking garage.”
And then there’s the oversharer. Oh, you know the oversharer. “Hey everyone, just got back from the doctor…” No. No, no, no. That’s not a group text topic. That’s a private conversation. I don’t need medical updates while I’m trying to eat a sandwich.
Group texts also have that one person who replies… to everything. Every message. Immediately. You type “okay,” and they respond, “Great!” Then someone else says, “see you later,” and they’re like, “Sounds good!” I’m exhausted just reading it. It’s like texting with a golden retriever.
And why does nobody ever leave? Have you ever noticed that? Once you’re in a group text, that’s it. That’s your new family. You could move to another country, change your name, start a new life… and your phone still goes off: “Happy Birthday, Carol!!!” Who is Carol?!
And don’t even get me started on the “Good morning” people. Every day. At the same time. “Good morning ☀️🌸🙏.” I haven’t had coffee yet. I don’t need blessings. I need silence and maybe a bagel.
Then someone tries to make plans in a group text. That’s chaos. “What time works for everyone?” Nobody answers the same question. One says 3:00, another says Saturday, someone else says, “I love pizza.” That’s not even a time!
And the worst part? You can’t mute it forever. You try. You hit “mute for 8 hours.” Eight hours later… BAM. 47 new messages. About nothing. Absolutely nothing. Just people sending “LOL” like it’s breaking news.
So now, anytime I see a group text pop up, I treat it like a suspicious email. I don’t open it right away. I stare at it. I think about my life choices. And then I open it… and immediately regret everything.

He thought the buzzing above was a drone until it synchronized with his breathing.
His veins lit faintly green, mapping constellations that didn’t exist in any sky.
He screamed, but the sound was mirrored in the craft above, amplified and distorted.
