A curious turkey wandered through the yard while the goats looked as though they were judging its fashion sense.

The cats watched every second with ears standing at full attention. AMC movies, favorite restaurants, and a little shopping are all waiting on the calendar. Summer certainly knows how to keep retirement entertaining.

NASA News🔭
NASA has just issued a major new call for proposals aimed specifically at technologies needed to establish a sustainable Moon Base near the lunar South Pole. The Sept. 8 announcement focuses on some very practical problems: generating power, extracting oxygen from lunar material, and manufacturing materials on the Moon for construction and operations.

 Heather settled onto her back porch swing just before twilight with a tall glass of iced tea. A notebook and sharpened pencil lay beside a bowl of fresh strawberries. She spent nearly an hour reading MindMyst Tales Blog, especially enjoying the astronomy feature. Fireflies appeared one by one as the sky slowly darkened. She sketched a simple star map on the paper before finishing her snack. The evening ended with a sense of quiet wonder. She closed the laptop, already anticipating the next edition.

Last Days of Summer Math Problems

1. Trish and Chris spend one of the last warm days of summer at the town pool. Trish swims 18 laps, and Chris swims 25% more laps than Trish. How many laps does Chris swim?

2. Trish and Chris buy ice cream before summer ends. Two cones cost $4.50 each, and they also buy two bottles of water for $1.75 each. If they use a $5.00 coupon, how much do they pay?

3. Chris is cleaning up the garden before fall arrives. He fills 8 boxes with 12 pounds of vegetables each. He gives 25% of the vegetables to Trish. How many pounds of vegetables does Chris have left?

4. Trish and Chris take a final summer bike ride. They travel 18 miles in 1.5 hours. At the same average speed, how far would they travel in 2.5 hours?

5. On the last Saturday of summer, Trish and Chris have a picnic in the park. They start with 48 cookies and eat 3 cookies every 10 minutes. How many cookies will be left after 1 hour and 20 minutes?

You ever notice how GPS directions are incredibly confident right up until you actually need them?

The GPS voice says, Turn left in 500 feet. Very calm. Very professional. You think, Great. Finally, technology has solved driving.

Then you get closer, and it says, Turn left now. Now? Where? Into that person's driveway?

That's when GPS starts sounding less like a navigation system and more like a guy who has been awake for three days.

You pass the turn by twelve feet, and suddenly the GPS says, Recalculating. You can hear the disappointment in its voice.

Recalculating is GPS for, Well, you messed that up.

I love when the GPS says, Take the next exit, and there are six exits within the next half mile.

Which one? Exit 12? Exit 12A? Exit 12B? Or the mysterious exit that seems to exist only on the GPS?

Sometimes the GPS gives you a road name that nobody on Earth has ever heard of.

Turn right onto Old Mill Road. I'm looking around, thinking, Old Mill Road? I've lived here for thirty years. I have never heard of Old Mill Road.

Then you see a tiny dirt path between two bushes.

There it is. Old Mill Road. Apparently the GPS has been planning my camping trip without telling me.

The worst GPS directions happen at night.

You're driving down a dark road; there are no houses, no streetlights, and absolutely no signs of civilization.

The GPS says, Your destination is on the right.

On the right is a forest.

I'm thinking, if my destination is in those woods, I'm changing my destination.

Then GPS says, You have arrived.

Arrived where? At the beginning of a horror movie?

I also love when GPS sends you down a road that gets narrower and narrower.

At first, it's a normal street. Then it becomes a country road.

Then it becomes one lane.

Then it becomes two tire tracks through somebody's backyard.

At that point, GPS says, Continue for 2.3 miles.

I say, Continue? Lady, I'm already reconsidering my entire life.

And GPS never understands when you decide to ignore it.

You make a perfectly reasonable choice to stay on the main road, and GPS immediately starts recalculating like you've betrayed the family.

Recalculating.

Recalculating.

Recalculating.

You can almost hear it saying, Fine. We'll do it your way.

Then it finds another route that saves eleven seconds.

Eleven seconds! I'm not racing a fire truck. I'll take the road with pavement.

The really suspicious moment is when GPS tells you to make a U-turn.

You know things have gone badly when the voice says, When possible, make a U-turn.

When possible? What does that mean? Is there a designated U-turn somewhere, or should I just pull into somebody's lawn?

And sometimes GPS gives you directions that sound like instructions from a spy movie.

In 700 feet, turn right. Continue 200 feet. Turn left. Enter the parking area. Proceed to the rear entrance.

Now I'm wondering if I'm delivering secret documents.

The best part is when you finally arrive, and GPS says, You have arrived at your destination.

You look around and realize you're at the wrong entrance.

So you sit there for a moment, staring at the building, wondering which one of you is going to admit that this trip went completely off the rails.

I think GPS should occasionally just tell the truth.

Turn right in 500 feet. You probably won't like this road. There's a pothole big enough to have its own zip code. Good luck, Joe.
