The Miller Report 10082026
Miller's Mysteries Blog
• Greetings
Hello and welcome to Miller's Mysteries Blog, where the leaves are changing, and the neighborhood detectives are back on patrol. Autumn brings seasonal weather, crisp mornings, colorful scenery, and plenty of reasons to get out of the house.
Cats
We are looking forward to Calendar House shows, AMC movies, good meals at local restaurants, shopping trips, and decorating adventures. Every now and then, some visiting wildlife wanders through the yard to see what we are doing. Meanwhile, the neighbor's goats are looking in, and the cats are looking out like they are conducting a very serious security operation. Nobody gets paid for this work, but everybody seems highly qualified.

- Sunday, Oct. 11: π¦️ Mostly sunny early, but showers become more likely, high around 71°F, low around 57°F. weston.dailyvoice.com

• The Reader
Emily settled into the living room late Sunday afternoon with a yellow legal pad and a freshly sharpened pencil. She had a cup of hot chocolate beside her and a small bowl of chocolate cookies within reach. The autumn light coming through the window gave the room a warm, comfortable glow. She read through Mindmyst Tales Blog slowly, stopping whenever an idea caught her attention. Soon her legal pad was filling with notes, questions, and the occasional doodle. She leaned back into the sofa and decided she could easily spend an entire afternoon exploring the blog. The only problem was that the cookies were disappearing faster than the mysteries were being solved.

• Math of the Week πππ’
1. October Foliage Trip
Chris and Trish drove 48 miles to see the fall foliage. Their car averaged 24 miles per gallon, and gasoline cost $3.25 per gallon. How much did they spend on gasoline for the trip?
2. Pumpkin Patch Drive
Trish drove 36 miles to a pumpkin patch at an average speed of 45 miles per hour. How many minutes did the drive take?
3. Leaf-Peeping Road Trip
Chris and Trish left home at 10:15 a.m. and drove for 1 hour and 35 minutes to visit a scenic overlook. They stayed for 45 minutes before driving home, which took 1 hour and 20 minutes. What time did they arrive home?
4. October Mileage
Chris's car had 18,420 miles on the odometer at the beginning of October. By October 31, he had driven an additional 275 miles. If 80 of those miles were driven by Trish, how many miles did Chris drive?
5. Apple Orchard Adventure
Chris and Trish drove 25 miles to an apple orchard and then another 18 miles to a farm stand before heading home. The trip home was 31 miles. If their car averaged 30 miles per gallon, how many gallons of gasoline did they use for the entire trip?

• Joe & Chantal Investigate πΈπ️
“Welcome to Joe & Chantal Investigate,” Joe said. “This is where eyewitness UFO reports meet curiosity, skepticism, and a little humor. Today, we’re opening the files on a strange sighting that left one witness staring at the sky and wondering what had just crossed overhead.”
“That’s right,” Chantal said. “We’re not going to declare every strange light an alien spacecraft before we’ve even finished our coffee. We’re going to listen to the eyewitness, examine the details, and see what possible explanations might fit the evidence.”
“And if we can’t find an explanation?” Joe said. “Then we’ll put it in the mysterious-but-interesting folder. I have a feeling that folder is going to get pretty full.”
“I think you’re right,” Chantal said. “That’s what makes these reports so fascinating. We can be curious without jumping to conclusions, skeptical without dismissing the witness, and still have some fun while we investigate.”
Joe picked up his coffee and smiled. “All right, Chantal. The coffee is ready, the microphone is on, and the investigation is about to begin.” Chantal smiled back. “Then let’s get started, Joe. Somewhere out there, something just crossed the sky, and we’re going to find out what it was.” ☕️π️πΈπ
From Connecticut anonymous
Aug 9th 2022 - My son and I took our boat to a local lake that we had never been to. We ended up staying out past dark and looking up at the stars, hoping to spot a ufo. Neither of us had seen one before, but were intrigued by the phenomenon and thought it would be an interesting experience to have.
We stayed out on the lake for a couple hours looking up to see nothing out of the ordinary.
On our way back to the storage unit to drop off the boat we noticed an orange light in the sky, off in the distance. We assumed it was some type of general aviation aircraft. It was in the direction of our storage unit so we continued in its direction.
Upon arrival to the storage unit we could see the orange light now approaching us. It was approximately 250' AGL and moving at approximately 20 mph. Seeing it from a closer distance revealed that it wasn't a light on a craft but a craft of light, slightly pulsing with an amber glow, a few feet in diameter.
It continued moving towards our direction as if it were going to fly directly overhead. By this time we could tell that it wasn't making any sound. It was clearly not any type of GA aircraft or a camera drone of any type. We started getting a little freaked out.
I was about to get my phone out of my vehicle to start recording it, when it made a 90 degree left hand turn and started climbing at a 45 degree angle. It then made another left hand turn, now flying directly away from us and still climbing at approximately 45 degrees until it faded out of sight.
-
“Well, Chantal,” Joe said, “we managed to get through that UFO report without blaming aliens, which I consider a successful investigation.” “Give it a minute,” Chantal said. “Our next eyewitness might make that a little harder.”
-
In the news:
Collinsville sighting: On July 6, two witnesses near the Nepaug Reservoir reported a large, disk-shaped object with lights, apparently moving low and slowly across their view. The witness estimated it was larger than a car.
That Collinsville case is especially interesting for us, Chantal, because it has two witnesses, a specific location, approximate size, shape, lights, movement, and duration. That's exactly the kind of eyewitness report we can examine without having to jump straight to ALIENS!
-
“Well, Chantal,” Joe said, “that brings another investigation to a close.”
“We heard the eyewitness, examined the details, and considered the possibilities,” Chantal said.
“We may not know exactly what was seen,” Joe said, “but at least we asked the right questions.”
“And we managed to investigate the whole thing without blaming every strange light on aliens,” Chantal said.
Joe smiled and lifted his coffee. “Until next time, keep looking up, keep asking questions, and keep your coffee hot.” ☕️πΈπ️

Every home has a junk drawer. Nobody plans to have one. It just happens, like dust, bills, and that one sock that has been missing since 2014.
You can move into a brand-new house with nothing but a suitcase and a coffee maker. Give it six months, and somehow there will be a junk drawer. Nature finds a way.
The junk drawer starts innocently enough. You put in a screwdriver because you need it later. Then you add a flashlight, two batteries, and a rubber band.
Three months later, you open the drawer and discover things you don't remember owning. There is a key, three paper clips, a plastic spoon, and something that looks like part of a toaster.
Nobody knows what the key opens. Nobody has ever known. But you can't throw it away because someday you're going to find the lock.
That's the junk drawer rule. If you don't know what something is, you are required to keep it for at least twenty years.
I found a tiny Allen wrench in my junk drawer once. I had no idea what it belonged to. I kept it because apparently I was now responsible for its future.
The junk drawer is also where batteries go to die. You put in a fresh battery and six months later you're testing it on your tongue like you're conducting advanced electrical engineering.
Then there are the dead batteries. They sit there for years, quietly waiting to be mistaken for good batteries.
You reach into the drawer looking for a pen. You move six batteries, a measuring tape, two keys, and a mystery cable. No pen.
Finally, you find a pen. It has no ink. Of course it doesn't. It has been living in the junk drawer, so it has already given up on life.
The junk drawer contains every kind of screw known to humanity. Some are tiny. Some are enormous. None of them belong to the project you're working on.
You find a screw and think, "That looks important." So you put it back. You don't want to be responsible for whatever falls apart if you throw it away.
Then there are the instruction manuals. The junk drawer has manuals for appliances you no longer own.
I have seen manuals for coffee makers that disappeared before some of the family members were born. Yet the manual remains, protected like an ancient scroll.
The junk drawer also collects takeout menus. You don't need them anymore because every restaurant has an app, but you keep them anyway.
Sometimes you find a menu for a restaurant that closed ten years ago. That's not junk anymore. That's history.
And somehow there are always twist ties. Nobody buys twist ties. They just appear.
You open the drawer and discover enough twist ties to secure a refrigerator to a moving truck. You don't know where they came from, but you're strangely proud of the collection.
Rubber bands are another junk drawer mystery. You start with two rubber bands. Somehow you eventually have forty-seven.
Then comes the mysterious plastic object. Nobody knows what it is. Everybody in the house has examined it.
Someone eventually says, "I think it belongs to something." That's the official junk drawer diagnosis.
The junk drawer is also where old phone chargers go. You haven't owned the phone for twelve years, but you're convinced the charger might become useful someday.
Then there is the one screwdriver that doesn't fit anything. You keep it because it is the only screwdriver you can find when you actually need one.
Cleaning the junk drawer is a major household event. You dump everything onto the table and immediately realize you have made a terrible mistake.
After twenty minutes, you organize everything into neat little piles. Batteries here, tools there, keys over here, mysterious objects in the middle.
Then somebody walks by and says, "Where should I put this?" You point toward the drawer and watch your entire organizational system collapse.
Within three weeks, the junk drawer is back to normal. The batteries are mixed together, the mystery key has returned, and the rubber bands have multiplied.
At that point, you close the drawer and accept reality. Every home needs a junk drawer. It's not really junk. It's a museum of things we are absolutely certain we might need someday.

===========SHADOW
Every star disappears from the Connecticut sky at exactly 2:00 a.m. Then the darkness above the state tears open like fabric. Hundreds of spacecraft emerge from the enormous opening. Their pilots are tall, thin creatures with glowing white faces and impossibly long arms. They descend into neighborhoods without touching the ground. Dogs hide beneath beds, while cats stare silently through windows. The creatures stop outside certain houses and remain perfectly still. Nobody understands how they choose their targets. Then every selected house begins glowing from within. The aliens raise their hands. The houses vanish.

• Thanks for dropping by and sharing part of your day with me. I hope something you read here gave you a laugh, a thought, or a little mystery to carry with you. The coffee pot will be ready with plenty of hot black coffee whenever you return. When the sun goes down, we'll light the fire pit and settle in for another evening together. There's nothing quite like hot soup, a warm fire, and a good conversation. Until next time, my friend, the door is always open.
